Definition
In the UK a protected award is compensation of up to 90 days’ pay that is awarded by an Employment Tribunal. It is awarded if the employer hasn’t followed proper procedure when carrying out collective redundancies.

Example of Use: The Employment Tribunal found that the employer had failed to properly consult and inform the employees during the redundancy process. The employers were, therefore, given a protected award of 90 days’ pay.
